IN THE NEWS:
J. Curtis Warner, Jr.
The Boston Arts
Academy honored Berklee Assistant Vice President for Community and Governmental
Affairs, J. Curtis Warner, Jr., at their Commencement Ceremony, Friday,
June 11, at Symphony Hall.
Each year, a group of the BAA’s graduating seniors select a person
in the community who has made a difference in their lives. Warner chaired
the planning committee that founded the BAA, the city's first high school
for the visual and performing arts. Opening in 1998, the school represents
a collaboration between the Boston Public Schools and the Pro Arts Consortium,
an alliance of six Boston-area arts-focused institutions of higher education.
Warner also established the Berklee City Music Saturday Preparatory School.
This program, offered by Berklee and conducted on site at the BAA, was
designed to provide a challenging music education to middle school students
in the Boston area, putting them on par with students from more affluent
school districts. Through collaborative activities between Berklee and
the BAA, students are introduced to a higher-education campus environment.
