Greater Boston Principal Residency Network

The Mentoring Principals

The participating Mentoring Principals are carefully selected for the following qualities:

  • They exhibit visionary, strong instructional leadership;
  • The principal and school are committed to the creation of small, personalized learning communities (there is ample research demonstrating the positive correlation between school and class size and higher student achievement, especially for low-income students and students of color);
  • The school, under the principal's leadership, is engaged in deep, systemic reform designed to address the academic and personal needs of all students, resulting in improved academic performance;
  • The principal has successfully created a vibrant professional collaborative culture in which faculty are continuously engaged in reflective practice to improve learning, teaching, and assessment;
  • The school is intensely involved with significant restructuring efforts such as full inclusion of IEP students, school-wide performance assessment, multi-level groupings, etc., directed at whole school change;
  • The district supports the school's and principal's involvement in the project.
